Just like everyone else, the aerospace industry celebrates St. Valentine’s Day—often in uniquely cosmic ways! Many space organizations and companies mark the occasion with creative events and activities. Today, we’re sharing some of our favorite space-themed Valentine’s Day moments that we hope will inspire you as well.
NASA has released a series of Valentine’s Day gift cards featuring images of celestial bodies and astronomical phenomena, paired with romantic space-themed messages. One charming example: Earth telling Venus, “You’re the brightest planet in my sky.”
On February 13, 2024, NASA posted a “Lunar love letter” on Instagram, promising that Earth would send a special gift to the Moon the next day—a lunar lander from Intuitive Machines. This lander, delivered by SpaceX, is set to test critical technologies needed for humanity’s return to the lunar surface.
In 2022, astronaut Kayla Barron shared a touching Valentine’s Day message from the International Space Station: "Wishing everyone on the planet a Happy Valentine's Day from off the planet."
There have been many heartwarming love stories in the astronaut community. Some astronauts met and fell in love during intense space training, such as Dr. Rhea Seddon and Capt. Robert “Hoot” Gibson. Meanwhile, Mark Lee and Jan Davis made history as the first married couple to fly in space together.
